Wordsley History Society

The annual closure of the society for the month of August has given committee members a breathing space and time to prepare for another busy season, that of the autumn. After extremely successful spring and summer seasons the following programme has been prepared:

Sept. 14th John Butterworth will talk about ‘Editing the Black Country Bugle’. It will include some of the characters who have worked on the ‘The Bugle’ and some of the amazing stories the paper has covered.

October 12 ‘Mary and Ernest Stevens will be brought to us by Roy Peacock on the 60th anniversary of Ernest Steven’s death, October 1957 and the legacy left to the local people, Mary Stevens park.

On November 9 An illustrated talk by Rob Broadbent entitled ‘Walking in Satan’s Footsteps’ is based on a guided tour, bringing to life the past traced during a walk along Dudley canals thro’ Blackbrook Valley and the Merry Hill Centre.

All meetings are held at Wordsley Green Community Centre second Thursday each month starting at 7.30pm. Members enjoy free entrance, visitors very welcome £2 including refreshments. For further info. ring 01384 288219
