QUARRY Bank domestic abuse campaigner Sam Billingham has smashed her fundraising target by braving a sponsored head shave.

Sam has raised £375 for her domestic abuse charity SODA (Survivors of Domestic Abuse) by having her hair shaved off at the Hare and Hounds pub in Wollescote on Saturday (April 21).

The 38-year-old campaigner, a mum of one, set up the charity after fleeing an abusive relationship in 2006 - to help others going through similarly tough times.

Stourbridge News:

Georgie Dalby of Blaze Hair salon (pictured above right with Sam, left) carried out the head shave at the event, dubbed SODA Sam’s Shindig, which also included a DJ set and raffle.

Sam said afterwards: "I feel great after the shave. I'm really pleased with it. I was a little nervous as we were preparing for the cut but the support from everyone was overwhelming."

The money raised had been due to go towards securing office space but SODA now has an office at The Hope Centre, Halesowen, so all money collected from the head shave stunt is going to SODA's Bag of Life project which aims to provide toiletries, sanitary products and old but working mobile phones - to give to local safe houses to help those fleeing domestic abuse.
