A MAN has been arrested after seven cars were set on fire in Wall Heath overnight.

Officers received multiple reports of fires around Wolverhampton Road just before12.20am this morning (Monday).

Initially a BMW had been set alight before a second call was received around an hour later to say several cars were on fire on Beachcroft Road.

When officers attended they found a Volkswagen Golf, a Vauxhall Corsa and a white van had been set alight.

Shortly afterwards officers found a Vauxhall Nova, a Ford Transit van and an Audi A1 had been set alight in Holbeache Croft, off Wolverhampton Road.

West Midlands Fire Service attended each blaze and extinguished the fires.

Police then arrested a 36-year-old man near to Holbeache Croft on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

He was due to be questioned by detectives today.

Detective sergeant Matt Morgan, from Dudley CID, said: "Officers were quickly on the scene and were able to arrest a suspect close to where many of the fires had taken hold.

"The man is currently in police custody and will be questioned over the arsons later today."
