PRIMARY school pupils from across Dudley borough have had the chance to become smart scientists for a day as they leant about saving energy.

Year 5 and 6 pupils from Maidensbridge Primary School and Church of the Ascension CE Primary School, in Wall Heath, as well as St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, in Brierley Hill, took part in an interactive workshop to understand more about energy, where it comes from and how to use it efficiently.

The pupils completed a series of hands-on games and activities as part of international energy company Eon’s Smart Kids education programme.

Dean Nolan, deputy headteacher at Maidensbridge Primary School, said: “The Smart Kids workshop is a great way for children to learn all about energy and how to use it wisely in the home in a fun and interactive way.

“The children were really engaged with the activities from the beginning and they learned a lot from the experience.”

During the session pupils donned white lab coats and worked against the clock to help Professor Smart Alec regain his smartness by the end of the lesson.

Leanne Brunt, clerical assistant at Eon, said “I really enjoyed volunteering and being part of this activity.

“To have the opportunity to support my children’s schools with Eon’s educational activity is great.

“The children got really involved in the activities and there was such a buzz of excitement in the classroom, which was lovely to see.”
