CHOIRS performed Christmas classics at an Amblecote supermarket last weekend to spread some festive cheer and raise cash for charity.
Sainsbury’s invited groups including Stourbridge Choral and Orchestral Society and Brierley Hill Churches Together to sing a number of carols at the store, including Jingle Bells, Little Donkey and Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer.
Singers were given the option to either raise funds for the store’s local charity partner, Mary Steven’s Hospice or a local charity of their choice.
St James’s Primary School in Wollaston, decided to raise cash for Birmingham’s Acorns Hospice at the event and raised £347.85.
Headteacher, Sally Sixsmith, said: “We had a great time helping the store customers get that festive feeling. We chose to sing our school's favourite carols and Christmas songs which we hope everyone enjoyed. To be part of national singing celebration was something we’re all proud of.”
Thanks to the generosity of customers and colleagues, the combined total raised over the weekend for local charities was £850.
Store manager, Kevin Healy, added: “We’d like to thank all of our singers for taking part, it was a special event.”
