EVERYTHING'S blooming lovely down at The Britannia Inn these days.

The Wollaston pub has dug deep to become a regional winner in Enterprise Inns' prestigious Pub in Bloom competition for the second year running.

Painstaking work transforming the pub car park into an array of colour has paid off handsomely for The Brit.

Wayne Etheridge has been licensee for the past three years, but it's his father Ted who has the green fingers.

Mr Etheridge senior said: "The warmer and drier weather we've had recently has been really beneficial for the dahlias, begonias, lilies and geraniums. It has made the floral displays more colourful than last year.

"The judging took place in August but we've only just heard about the award.

"We've beaten a considerable number of rivals to win this award when you consider Enterprise are one of the biggest pub chains in the country. They also own The Princess and The Gate Hangs Well in Wollaston for instance.

"We're over the moon at winning for the second time and I feel it's a shame that some pubs don't bother.

"I feel by making the pub attractive to look at, it encourages people to come in."
