PUPILS at a Wall Heath school have shown their generous spirit during their recent charity week.

Each year, Church of the Ascension Primary School’s council selects two charities they wish the school to support.

This year Birmingham Children's Hospital was chosen alongside Ridgewood High School’s Project Gambia initiative.

In the weeks leading up to Project Gambia heading out to Africa, pupils brought in medical supplies to help stock a medical centre the initiative was setting up, as well as donating an amount of surplus school uniforms.

The pupils also took part in a sponsored ‘Let's Move’ during which they took part in keep fit routines that had been devised by the children in year six.

An incredible £3,000 was raised by the school, which is being split equally between the two charities.

Steve Hudson, headteacher of Church of the Ascension Primary School, went out to The Gambia to help deliver the supplies with the Wollaston high school.

Mr Hudson said: “Our children are extremely fortunate to benefit from so many things that we take for granted.

“They should feel very proud of themselves for helping to make a real difference to the lives of children who have so much less than we do.”

The Stourbridge News has also joined forces with Project Gambia this year to help raise money to buy and install a water pump at a farm in Sintet.

The Well of Life appeal needs to raise £10,000 to fund the pump and irrigation system to serve the villagers of Sintet.

To make a donation to the appeal visit www.justgiving.com/welloflifeappeal/ or text PROG15 and your amount, either £10, £5, £4, £3, £2, £1, to 70070.

People can also donate cash or cheques in person at the Stourbridge News offices, at St John’s House, St John’s Road, Stourbridge.

Cheques need to be made payable to Project Gambia Trust Ridgewood, and you’ll need to write Well off Life Appeal on the back.
