THIEVES broke into a Wollaston school during the weekend and made away with the pupils' computer equipment.

Burglars have also been reported to have stolen a television from the special needs department of Ridgewood High School.

The break-in occurred between the time the school was closed on Friday (April 24) evening and opened again on Monday (April 27) morning.

A spokeswoman from West Midlands Police said: “Police are investigating after thieves broke into Ridgewood High School in Wollaston over the weekend.

“A double glazed window was removed to gain access to the property and computer equipment was stolen.

“A forensic examination has been carried out and police are asking for anyone with information to call 101.”

Clive Nutting, headteacher of Ridgewood High School, said: “It is a shame and disappointing that people would break into a school and take school resources.

“We will do everything we can to support the police with their enquiries.”

Donna Peachey, a parent at the school, said: “I can’t believe people would do such a thing as steal from a school.

“Their PC monitors are gone, as is a large flat screen TV which was donated to the school by my husband’s boss.

“The school is not the most well-to-do, but hand-on-heart the teachers do a fantastic job with the kids.

“I hope there are people out there who are kind hearted enough to donate items to replace the ones taken.”

Anyone with information to assist the police inquiry should call 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
