A STOURBRIDGE based drumming group – who were one of the star attractions at the Well of Life appeal event day – are on the lookout for new members.

Spirit of Djembe performed on stage, almost non-stop, for five-and-a-half-hours on Saturday at the Ryemarket Shopping Centre.

The group, which plays traditional West African drumming rhythms, meet four times a week at different locations in the town.

Faith Sax, teacher and leader, grew up in South Africa and provides classes for both adults and children.

She said: “I love teaching the classes, as these ancient rhythms have many healing effects.

“They bring people into harmony, closeness and community. They generate joy and energy in people, putting them in touch with their love of life.

“The music is punchy and exciting and drumming is fun and energising. It is the beat of the music that they enjoy, like the beat of your heart.”

Classes are held at the Stourbridge Quaker Meeting House, in Scotts Road, at 7pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons. The group also meets at Katie Fitzgerald’s pub, in Wollaston, on Wednesday evenings.
