The meeting on April 28 was presided over by newly appointed chairperson Pat Brampton. She replaces Hilda Cartwright who has stepped down after eight years due to domestic circumstances.
Hilda was thanked for the support she had given to the club and presented with bouquet.
We also celebrated the 95th birthday of Joan Greaves, who kindly provided cakes for us all.
The speaker was Paul Maguire, who is well known to us from previous years. He told us about his early days working for the BBC as a warm up man, having worked with celebrities such as Cilla Black, Charlie Drake, Harry Secombe and the Goon Show etc. Conditions in those days were quite primitive compared to the digital technology of today and he told us many amusing stories of his experiences.
The next meeting is on May 26, when John Billingham will present an illustrated talk on “Images of Worcestershire”. This starts at 2pm in St Thomas’s CHurch Hall, Market Street, Stourbridge. All are welcome.
