In the absence of the chairman, the June meeting was presided over by vice chairman Hazel Needham. She welcomed all members and two visitors, namely Margaret Brookes and Enid Fennell from Federation.

On an extremely sad note, a minutes silence was observed in memory of Angel Nicholls, an active member, whose sudden death shocked us all.

Angela’s daughter Luana addressed the meeting, to thank all who had sent sympathy cards and shared moments of her mother.

Ann McKenzie, on behalf of all members, thanked the committee for the hard work they had put in, to make the 50th birthday celebration such a successful evening The meeting continued with the usual business and reports from subsections, followed by correspondence received.

There were boards in circulation for members interested in attending the national carol service, the Federation lunch in Stourbridge, the harvest lunch in Wollaston in October, the race day at Wollaston in July and the strawberry tea, when donations will be taken in aid of Macmillan Nurses.

The speaker for the evening was David Hickman, who gave a most enjoyable illustrated talk on old Stourbridge.

Raffle prizes went to Joy Cook and Ann Foxall. Joy also won the competition in which the runners up were Ann Powell and Elizabeth Grove.

Refreshments were in the capable hands of Ann Powell and Ann Foxall.

The next meeting is on July 14 and comprises the Macmillan tea party.
