ONE of the most exciting new comics on the scene will headline a comedy night in Stourbridge next week.

Nathan Caton, well-known for his appearances on TV’s ‘Live At The Apollo’ and ‘Mock the Week’ is top of the bill at this month’s Fitz of Laughter Comedy Club gig on Friday, April 8, which will be held in the downstairs marquee of Katie Fitzgerald’s in Enville Street.

The 31-year-old Londoner, who has also appeared on Russell Howard’s Good News, is due to appear alongside the likes of Michael McIntyre and Alan Carr for the annual Channel 4 Comedy Gala held at London’s O2 in May.

Later in the year, Nathan will tour the country with his latest show – Straight Outta Middlesex.

Also on the bill are Andrew Bird, a regular circuit headliner who has supported Rhod Gilbert and Jon Richardson on national tours, deadpan one-liner Anthony J Brown, who appeared in Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights, and hosted as ever by resident compere Wayne Beese.

Andrew Bird, who has performed stand-up all over the world and also acted as warm-up for shows including Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Room 101 and Pointless, is opening the show, but will then hot foot it over to Birmingham’s prestigious Glee Club where he will be headlining on the same night.

While northerner Anthony J Brown – a former runner-up in the BBC New Comedy Award – will be the middle act and is also a circuit stalwart.

Compere Wayne Beese, of Dudley, called the line-up “fantastic”, adding: “In many ways it is a triple headline bill.

“All three acts appear regularly at the big comedy clubs but are also very different in style and material.

“We have had some fantastic nights here – the feedback from the March gig was incredible – but with this line-up I think the potential is there for it to be the best one yet.

“For people who have not been before, it really is a fantastic intimate room, perfect for stand-up comedy.

“We would urge people to have a look at the reviews on our Facebook page and come and give us a try – they won’t be disappointed.”

The club, which usually runs on the first Friday of every month, has played host to the likes of Gary Delaney, Zoe Lyons, Tom Stade, Jo Enright, Archie Kelly and Matt Richardson since being relaunched last September.

Doors open at 8pm and tickets, costing £10, can be bought from www.skiddle.com/e/12556751.
