A MEMBER of the House of Lords recently visited a Stourbridge school to encourage students to become more engages with the political and parliamentary process.

Lord Faulkner met with year 10 and 11 pupils at Ridgewood High School, in Wollaston, to talk about the work and role of the House of Lords.

Arranged as part of the Lord Speaker’s ‘Peers in Schools’ programme, the visit culminated in a question and answer session where pupils asked the lord – otherwise known as Baron Faulkner of Worcester – about various aspects of parliament and life at Westminster in general.

Kate Bastock, PHSCE teacher, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to interact with someone who knows the parliamentary system inside out, as it can sometimes seem far removed from their daily lives.”

The ‘Peers in Schools’ programme has been running across the UK since 2007 and sends members of the House of Lords into schools, academies and colleges to give talks in support of the citizenship curriculum.
