ONE of the UK’s original punk rock heroes is set to perform his first ever gig in Stourbridge.

Former front man with ‘The Adverts’, TV Smith’s musical career has spanned almost 40 years and the punk legend will be appearing at Katie Fitzgerald’s on Friday (April 15).

During his time with the band, he enjoyed chart success in the late 1970s with hits including ‘Gary Gilmore’s Eyes’, ‘Bored Teenagers’, ‘One Chord Wonders’ and ‘No Time To Be 21’.

Following their split in 1979, he went on to front two other bands – TV Smith’s Explorers and Cheap – before establishing himself as a solo artist.

Regarded as one of punk’s greatest lyricists, TV’s high energy live shows feature a mix of old favourites, new songs, requests and surprises.

Support at the gig comes from energetic, foot stomping Stourbridge favourites ‘Flying Ant Day’ who fuse a raw 60’s beat with up-to-date lyrical references.

But kicking off the evening will be BBC 6music regular The Humdrum Express, otherwise known as singer/songwriter Ian Passey, who will be previewing songs from his soon to be released album ‘The Day My Career Died’.

Admission on the door costs £7, with an 8pm start.
