AN abandoned Stourbridge school which has been the target for constant vandalism attacks has gone up in flames this afternoon (Friday, September 2).

Firefighters from West Midlands Fire Service were alerted to the blaze at Longlands School in Bowling Green Road at about 1.42pm.

Four fire engines and a brigade response vehicle from Stourbridge, Brierley Hill and Haden Cross Fire Stations were dispatched to the site, where crews discovered fires that were started in several locations around the building.

The 25 firefighters which attended used breaking in tools to gain access to the site, which has been left derelict since Stourbridge College's art department moved out in 2011.

Crews used breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to put out the blaze and by 2.20pm the fire had been extinguished and firefighters were starting to dampen down the area to stop it from reigniting.

Building inspectors from Dudley Council were also called to the scene, with the incident now left in the hands of West Midlands Police.

After the incident, Stourbridge Fire Station tweeted: β€œAnother fire at longlands, surely there is safer things to do then set arson fires.”
