A TRIO of Stourbridge students have each scooped a £1,000 scholarship award from the University of Worcester in recognition of their outstanding academic achievements.

Jessica Roberts, 20, and Ryan Shore, 19, who both previously attended King Edward VI College, along with 21-year-old Sian Pilkington, a former pupil at Kingswinford School and Stourbridge College, were presented with the scholarships at a special ceremony.

They earned their awards from the university’s vice chancellor and chief executive, Professor David Green, after their achievement at the institution throughout the 2015/16 academic year.

Jessica, who is studying for a degree in business management, said: “It feels so rewarding to have received an academic scholarship and to have my hard work recognised and acknowledged.

“This has encouraged me to continue my hard work in my third and final year to achieve a first class honours degree.”

Human Biology student Ryan said: “I feel completely over the moon about this achievement. I never expected to do so well in my first year of university.”

Sian, from Wollaston, is studying for a degree in sports business management, added: “As a third year student I’ve had my fair share of long nights in the library and moments of pure confusion, but receiving the academic scholarship, recognising the hard work I had put in, made it all worthwhile.”

Professor Green, who presented the trio with their scholarships, said: “We are very proud of each and every student who earned an academic scholarship this year.

“I am delighted that 2016 proved to be an all-time record year, which is a true testament to the hard work and ability of the students and to the inspirational teaching of the university’s staff.”
