A PUB’S Easter weekend fundraiser proved a cracking good time, raising about £4,000 to help a disabled Halesowen boy.

Hundreds of people turned out to support the four-day event at the Hare and Hounds, Wollescote, to help fund a dream holiday in America for James Wilde to see the monster trucks.

The eight-year-old suffers from life-limiting Duchenne muscular dystrophy and some of the money raised will go to Muscular Dystrophy UK.

Sponsorship from a 12-hour darts match and a sponsored chest wax, beard shave and leg wax by Josh Parker, Paul Johnson and Steve Burley, raised around £2,000.

James’ mum, Clare Pugh, said almost £1,000 was raised from a raffle and money was money was collected from other events including face painting, competitions, a bouncy castle, food and sweet sales.

Entertainment also featured a penalty shoot-out competition, Easter bonnet parade and live music.

Describing the weekend as a “total success”, Miss Pugh said: “I can't thank people enough for all their support and kindness and for the weather being on our side.”

The grateful mum, of High Farm Road, added: “James said he had a wonderful weekend and lots of fun and he is feeling epic that everyone has given him some money to make his wish of a holiday to America come true.”
