A STOURBRIDGE church will host a charity concert this Saturday (July 18) in aid of the town’s Street Pastors initiative.

Cradley Heath based Voices in Harmony choir had been due to perform at St Andrew's Church in Wollescote but the event is now set to go ahead at Bethel Chapel in Hill Street, Wollescote, instead.

Choir spokesman William McBain said “We sing all styles of music so there will be something for everyone. It would be good if we can fill the place and raise much-needed funds for Street Pastors.”

Stourbridge's volunteer Street Pastors are members of the town's churches and they patrol the town centre throughout the year on Saturday nights and during the summer they patrol Stourbridge parks from 6pm till 9.30pm.

Voices in Harmony, led by musical director Stephen Bradley, comprises around 60 members and holds around six concerts a year.

Since it was formed 15 years ago it has raised around £80,000 for local and national charities.

No tickets are needed to attend the charity concert, which starts at 7.15pm.

Admission is £5 on the door.

Voices in Harmony originally announced on its website that the concert had been moved due to building repairs at St Andrew’s but St Andrew’s church warden Denise McDonald has confirmed it is the church hall, not the church in Wassell Road, which has been closed as major renovation work is needed.

The church itself remains open as usual for services, weddings, christenings and funerals.
