A WOLLESCOTE fun day organised by tireless community fundraiser has raised £826 for charity.
Sylvia Horton organised the event, which saw The Queensway brought to life with dance performances and stalls selling cakes and bric-a-brac to keep youngsters entertained during the summer holiday and help raise cash for good causes.
She said: “We had a lovely day. We raised £826 in just a few hours.”
The money will go to four different causes, chosen by shopkeepers and residents in the Wollescote area - who each staged their own collections for charities close to their hearts.
Mo's hairdressing salon sold homemade red velvet cakes and raised £350 for Mary Stevens Hospice in Oldswinford in memory of Tracy Portman Jones.
Youngster Lily Chiad, aged seven, sold unwanted toys and DVDs and raised £261 for Stourbridge's No Limits Community Project for people with autism - in memory of her uncle Christopher Cook, who had Aspergers.
Peter Kakkoufa organised a Greek themed stall selling home-made desserts and cupcakes at Pedmore Fish Bar, raising £100 for the National Deaf Children's Society.
A bric-a-brac stall and raffle also raised £115 for Fantasy Dance Group which staged performances on the day.
Sylvia added: “Everybody loved it and people said we should do another one so we’re going to do it in June next year.”
