A DANCE group set up by a brave Stourbridge woman battling cancer is celebrating its tenth anniversary.

Sylvia Horton from Pedmore set up Fantasy Dance Club to help keep kids in the area entertained and to keep her busy after she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Now a decade on, she's a survivor of the deadly disease and is celebrating the anniversary of the group which was given a new lease of life last year thanks to a £4,300 grant from the Birmingham Foundation.

Sylvia, who is planning a reunion for past members later this year to mark the milestone, said: "Without that grant we would have had to close as we had no funds - that’s kept us going and has paid for new uniforms for the kids.

“We're a voluntary group - we only charge £2 a week for children to dance."

The club, which meets at Hob Green School, Pedmore Fields, has picked up trophies for its entries in the Stourbridge Carnival parade for the last two years running and Sylvia hopes to make it a hat trick this year.

The 48-strong dance group also performs at other community events in the area and its next outing will be at Stourbridge Health and Social Care Centre, John Corbett Drive, Amblecote, at 7.30pm on Monday May 23.
