COMMUNITY-SPIRITED residents across the borough have been busy decking their streets with bunting ready to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this Bank Holiday weekend.
Nearly a dozen street parties will be taking place in Stourbridge, Wordsley, Kingswinford and Brierley Hill areas to mark the historic occasion.
Residents living in Wassell Road, Wollescote, are among those looking forward to celebrating the Royal milestone.
The Wollescote Community Project is holding a Jubilee fete in the street on Monday June 4 which will include games and a bouncy castle for kids and a bazaar in the community centre for the adults.
There will also be refreshments, cakes, a barbecue, dance demonstrations and representatives from the emergency services at the event which Glen Wilson, chairman of Wollescote Community Project, said has been organised to “to try and show the next generation what being part of a community means”.
John Millar, Dudley’s director of urban environment, said the response from communities wanting to hold outdoor events over the Jubilee weekend had been “overwhelming”.
Street parties will also be held in Claydon Road, Kingswinford; Dunns Bank, Brierley Hill; and Pargeter Street, Stourbridge, on Sunday June 3.
And in Ascot Gardens and Rectory Street in Wordsley, Broadfield Close in Kingswinford, Clock Tower View in Stourbridge, and in Nottingham Way, Rookery Avenue, Shadymoor Drive in Brierley Hill, on Monday June 4.
Jubilee parties will also be held on the car park next to Wordsley’s Holy Trinity Church on Saturday June 9 and at Holy Trinity Church Hall, Amblecote, on Wednesday June 6.
