A 53-YEAR-OLD Wordsley mum-of-two who stole nearly £2,000 worth of jewellery from the Merry Hill shop where she worked has been jailed for six months.

Karen Waller, of Watery Lane, pocketed items including rings, bracelets, chains and watches when she was the subject of a suspended prison sentence imposed for stealing from another employer, Wolverhampton Crown Court heard.

Judge John Warner told her immediate jail was the only sentencing option available to him and he said: "I am sure you were told that if you reoffended it would be brought into effect.”

Waller admitted stealing from T.H. Baker at Merry Hill and also breaching the three-month jail term imposed for stealing £7,000 that had been suspended for two years.

She was sent to prison for four months for stealing from the jewellers shop with an additional two months for the breach of the suspended jail term.

Gareth Walters, prosecuting, said Waller stole from Baker's between May 10 2012 and February 2 this year having been given the suspended sentence on November 14 last year.

He told the court a number of items had gone missing from the jewellers shop and after two rings disappeared from a secure unit Waller was spotted in the room on CCTV acting suspiciously and she was arrested.

When her home was searched police found jewellery taken by Waller who, before her earlier sentence, had lead a blameless life.

Lee Egan, defending, said Waller did not know why she had committed the offences and she was now anxious to address her problems.
