As president, Stan Hill was unable to attend the meeting because of continuing poor health, Janet Blakeway presided and welcomed everyone to the Annual General Meeting of the Society. After the Minutes of the 2013 AGM had been approved, the Treasurer produced her Financial Statement, mentioning the contribution made by the Society to the restoration of the Richardson Hall plaques. She then confirmed that the Society continues into 2014-5 with a healthy balance, due to excellent attendances and the proceeds from raffles and visitors’ attendance fees.

Janet Blakeway then addressed the meeting, beginning by sending best wishes to President Stan Hill. She then informed the meeting that the restoration of the Richardson Hall Plaques was under way and thanked the society for the contribution they had made towards this work. On June 14, there is to be a re-dedication of the centre when art works from the Dudley collection will be on display, some of which are believed to be by Martha Richardson.

Chairman, Brian Idoine, said he was pleased to report another outstanding year for the Society, with attendances now averaging over 100.

This was largely due to the excellent programme, posters and press reports.

The programme had been extremely interesting, ranging from local subjects to those much farther afield – including one ‘trip to the stars’!

Members were reminded of the necessity to support the Wordsley Community Centre in their endeavours, particularly as, apart from building maintenance, everything must now be self-funded. Lastly he gave his ‘thank yous’ – first to Stan Hill, for his continued enthusiasm; to the Committee for their support and help throughout the year; to the ladies who provided the refreshments; and finally to Janet for stepping in and taking the meerting.

The June 12 meeting will take place at 7.30pm in the Community Centre, Wordsley Green, when Max Keen will give an illustrated talk entitled ‘Sir Francis Drake - England’s Greatest Naval Hero’. New members always welcome and visitors at a cost of £2 including light refreshments.
