ROBBERS who stole thousands of pounds worth of cigarettes from a Wordsley supermarket after attacking staff have been caught on CCTV.

Police are now urging people to come forward if they recognise the men or the stolen 59 plate white Ford Focus RS they used to get away from the scene.

The four men walked into Sainsbury’s Local, Lawnswood Road, at around 10.45pm on Sunday December 7, with their faces covered and grabbed a male member of staff.

The 21-year-old was pushed towards the tills as the robbers demanded to know the location of the safe.

They told his colleague to fill a rubble sack with cigarettes and when they refused, one of the offenders picked up a metal news stand and threatened the men with violence.

The men then fled to the car, which had been stolen from Shropshire, with several thousand pounds worth of cigarettes and cash from the tills.

DC Caroline Morris from Dudley Police said: "The men made several threats to the staff and were rough with the young man who had the misfortune of come into contact with them as they entered the store.

"We are very keen to trace those involved and urge anyone who recognises the men, their distinctive clothing, or the 59 plate sporty Ford Focus to contact us as soon as possible."

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
