A COMMUNITY speed watch group is continuing in its quest to monitor the speeding streets of Wordsley and keep racing motorists off the roads.

Wordsley Councillor Derrick Hemingsley has once again teamed up with the police and members of the public to zap speeding cars cruising too fast around his ward.

At the latest Wordsley Community Speed Watch meeting on the evening of Wednesday, May 13, Cllr Hemingsley was joined by a number of like-minded volunteers.

He said: “It was an excellent night with the speed watch volunteers in Wordsley, with the numbers continuing to grow and regular sessions are already planned throughout 2015.

“Our community are firmly behind the speed watch and our main aim – the safety of the children of Wordsley.”

The Labour councillor started the initiative after becoming increasingly concerned about the speed of traffic outside Belle Vue Primary, Ashwood Park Primary and Dingle Community Primary Schools.

Cllr Hemingsley added: “I need to remind residents that speed watch does not aim to punish drivers, instead it attempts to persuade drivers to adhere to the 30mph speed limits outside our schools.”

The meet, held near the junction of Rangeways Road and Madeley Road between 7pm and 8pm, clocked 12 motorists speeding over the 35mph limit, with one driver passing the gun at 43mph – the highest recorded speed on the evening.
