A WORDSLEY family have revealed their heartbreak after being the victims of a burglary which robbed them of priceless treasures.

Thieves left a trial of destruction after breaking into the family home in Kinver Street on March 30.

The family - who don't wish to be identified - have been left to pick up the pieces after the offenders made off with a safe containing cash and jewellery worth thousands, but not before they had ransacked every room in the house.

One family member said: "The burglars struck in broad daylight while we were out at the post office. They smashed a double glazed kitchen window to get into the house, then they ripped and smashed items before they came across the safe which they pulled out of the wall and wardrobe.

"It contained a number of family heirlooms including some of my mother's things. She died in a road accident back in 1971 when I was just six-years-old.

"They also took my son's coin collection and a suitcase of watches."

Three days after the burglary the family visited jewellers in Stourbridge, Dudley, Birmingham, Cradley and Wolverhampton and circulated images of easily identifable items.

As a result, a man was caught on camera at a Birmingham jewellers trying to sell silver ingots which were taken from the house in Kinver Street.

The family member added: "I identified the ingots and a silver vester case, but the proprietor was reluctant to hand them over and we had to get the police involved.

"We took photos off the jeweller's CCTV ourselves and passed them onto the police.

"But we've been very disappointed. We feel the police should have acted quicker. Details were circulated to the press almost two months after the burglary, by which time the money could have been spent and other items melted down."

Anyone with information about the burglary or the stolen items should contact Dudley Police by dialling 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
