FAMILIES can step back in time next weekend with the return of the free 1940s event at Wordsley's Red House Glass Cone.

To set the scene at the two-day event, the Victorian Westerners will be parading around the site dressed as soldiers, munitions workers and glamorous ladies keeping up their families spirits on the Home Front.

The event on Saturday, July 25, and Sunday, July 26, kicks off the Dudley Council-run heritage attraction’s summer entertainment programme.

Visitors can also browse vintage vehicles, as well looking inside the cone’s own on-site studios where there will be glassmaking demonstrations in the hot glass studio.

There will be live 1940s music with audiences invited to sing-a-long, with artist Lynn Dawes and son, performing from 1pm until 3pm on both days.

Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, cabinet member for planning and economic development, said: “The 1940s weekend has been hugely popular in recent years and I’m sure this year’s event will be no exception.

“It’s a great opportunity for people of all ages to enjoy a fantastic weekend of music, performances and entertainment.”

Both days will run from 10am to 4pm, with the coffee house open for business throughout the event.
