THOSE over the age of 40 in the borough still wanting to be involved in football now can thanks to the inaugural Dudley Walking Football Challenge Cup.

Taking place at Wordsley Park on Saturday September 26, the competition is a family fun event, featuring food stalls, penalty shoot-outs, dads vs children and other games.

Starting at 10am until 1pm, the Mayor of Dudley will also be on hand to present the cup and medals to competition winners.

Councillor Derrick Hemingsley, chairman of the Friends of Wordsley Park group, is organising the event alongside Age UK and Dudley Council’s public health.

He said: “This is an exciting development within our park and the response to the competition so far has been fantastic.

“Walking football is a growing sport in the UK and is aimed at keeping people over the age of 40 involved with football, if due to a lack of mobility or for other reasons they are not able to play the traditional game.

“We still have room for two more teams to join the competition. All you need is a team of seven over 40's.

“However, we are urging people to come along watch the competition and find out more about walking football, as well as joining in the family fun in the afternoon.”
