ANGRY community centre users are 'potty' with Dudley Council after dangerous potholes have formed on one of its car parks.

Members of the MS Society group which meet at Dingle Community Centre want the council to fill in a number of holes which have appeared in recent months.

They claim the car park is menace to anyone, but especially to their group as a proportion of its members are bound to wheelchairs.

Jennifer Hardy, MS Society group member, said: “It’s potty! It is very difficult for them to get from their car to the entrance to the centre due to the numerous potholes, some of which are quite deep.

“Other members use walking aids but would still have to negotiate these potholes. In fact these potholes are a menace to anyone using the car park whether they are disabled or not.”

Stourbridge News:

Councillor Judy Foster, deputy leader of Dudley Council, said she expects work to begin on filling in the potholes within the “next couple of weeks”.

She added: “The council was unaware of issues at the Dingle Community Centre car park but we have been out to inspect it this week and will carry out repairs.

“I would always urge people to report issues to us so we can take appropriate action.”

Jennifer initially wrote to all three of her local councillors to raise awareness of the issues, which was taken up by Councillor Paul Brothwood.

Cllr Brothwood called the car park a ‘disgrace’, adding that the council need to do more to keep the borough’s community centres up to working order.

He said: “I have fond memories of the centre as it is where I went to nursey, but to see the car park in its current state is terrible.

“It is a disgrace that the car park has just been left to get into this state and I would hate to see it deter people from coming to the centre, which would inevitably be a reason for the council to close it down.

“I will be pushing the council hard to have the entire car park repaired. Money needs to be put into our local centres for the good of the community.”
