HIGH Acres residents in Wordsley are hoping to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday and Black Country Day in style this year.

They hope to lay on a range of activities at the High Acres pub including a bouncy castle, DJ, mascots, decorations, a foam machine, balloon release, animal lady, face-painting, bubble machine and live music.

The event, lined up for June 11, has already been supported by local business and backed by Councillor Paul Brothwood and Kerry Lewis - UKIP candidate for Wordsley.

Cllr Brothwood said: "Nothing happened in Wordsley for last year's Black Country Festival and I didn't want that to happen again.

"Local businesses have already become involved as this is a great opportunity for getting the community together.

"I hope this is just the start and that we can make it both a self-funding and annual event.

"We already have Street Watch, Speed Watch and Neighbourhood Watch, which are things the residents have worked so hard with, and this is something which we can put back into the community."

Any residents wishing to get involved in the celebrations can contact Kerry Lewis on 07949 750832.
