A WORDSLEY couple have celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary surrounded by friends and family.

Yvonne, 79, and Roy Baker, 83, tied the knot at St Michael's Church in Brierley Hill on March 31, 1956 and have marked their 60 years of marriage by holding a celebratory party with their loved ones.

The couple, who have lived in Wordsley all their lives, first met at The Vine in Camp Hill, which is now the Ocean Basket.

During the years together Yvonne spent time working as at Stuarts, before becoming a post lady, while Roy worked in Junction Road making fire tile grates, later working in a foundry until the age of 70.

The retired pair spent their time away from work doing the things they loved – going out for food and drinks, as well as looking after their loving family.

They have three children, Paula, Mandy and Jay, together with eight grandchildren and a further eight great-grandchildren.

Daughter Paula Evans said: “They are both wonderful people. I couldn’t have asked for better parents.

“The week before their anniversary I celebrated 40 years with my husband, so you could say they have been the perfect role models for my own marriage.”
