Wordsley Gardening Club

The April meeting took place at Wordsley Green Community Centre on April 13. There were 19 members present and apologies from three members. Our speaker for the evening was Derek Walker from Astley Burf, now retired, but at one time had his own Nursery. He is a well known flower and vegetable judge and serves on gardening forums with other well known gardening experts. Derek brought along a good variety of hanging basket plants and demonstrated how to plant up baskets and containers for maximum effect throughout the summer. His useful tips were much appreciated.

We had our tea interval, thanks to Mary, Jack and Larry, followed by the raffle of several very good prizes. Derek then continued with his talk and at the end of the evening all baskets , containers and remaining plants were purchased by members.

The next meeting, on May 11, is our last meeting of the season when we are have our annual social Bring and Share supper, commencing 7.30pm when anyone will be made welcome.

The next meeting after that will be on September 14, 7.30pm which will be the Fred Willets Harvest Sale. We shall auction our garden produce – providing we get some decent growing weather, the proceeds of which are given to local charities.

Visitors are most welcome to attend any of the meetings.
