HUNDREDS of people visited Wordsley’s top tourist attraction when it staged its first ever ‘Teenage Market’ giving young traders and performers a chance to showcase their creative products and talents.

The Red House Glass Cone held a two day market offering slots to buskers, while jewellery, trinkets, cakes, photos and bunting stallholders were able to develop their business skills by selling items they have made or traded themselves.

Teenage Markets are a growing nationwide initiative which aim to bring a new energy and new audience to town centres and other venues, by providing free stall to youngsters who can keep all their profits.

The Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Mohammed Hanif, and the Mayoress visited the event, which was called a “huge” success with many supportive comments left on social media.

Cllr Hanif said: “It was an absolute pleasure to visit the teenage market. The young people were so enthusiastic, warm and engaging. They took the event seriously and we clearly have some creative and canny business minds in our midst.

“The Red House Glass Cone was the perfect venue for this innovative project, building on its reputation as a creative site with lots of business opportunities.”

Interest is already high for the cone’s second teenage market due to be held on Saturday November 26 and Sunday November 27 during the cone’s Christmas family weekend.
