REPORTS that travellers have moved onto Wordsley’s King George V Park have been coming in.
Police were earlier despatched to a playing field off Turner’s Lane near Sainsbury’s Amblecote after a Section 61 order was issued to evict a group of travellers who had set up an illegal camp there.
But shortly after West Midlands Police confirmed the order had been issued – reports started coming in that caravans were parking up in the popular Wordsley park off Lawnswood Avenue.
One resident living nearby told the News: “We’ve lived here 50 years and never had any travellers here before.”
Wordsley councillor Paul Brothwood said he had been notified of the arrival of half a dozen caravans on the park and he said: “I’m disappointed.
“It’s just not fair on local residents. At the end of the day they end up paying for the clean up. The council is not flush with cash and it becomes very costly.
“At the end of the day they’re trespassing on property which they shouldn’t be on.”
He said he’d be contacting the relevant authorities to call for swift action to be taken to move the travellers on and he said: “If there’s any litter left behind we should be charging them for littering.”
