WORDSLEY ‘M’ TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD

The October meeting was opened by Chairman of the day Wendy Lloyd who welcomed members and visitors attending. Apologies from three members. In the absence of the Secretary, Wendy introduced the minutes of the September meeting which was then signed. The outing to Worcester on October 2nd was very successful, although the support from members was very disappointing. Fortunately numbers were increased through members of other Community Centre groups and the day was enjoyed by all.

The day of ‘Autumn Celebrations’ at Wollaston was an excellent day and all ten members from Wordsley Guild enjoyed the event and thought it to be a very worthwhile social occasion. The Annual Carol Service to be held at St. Thomas’s Church on Saturday 9th December begins at 2.15pm.

The next luncheon club meeting is on Monday 6th November at The Swan, Kingswinford, 12 for 12.30pm. The Christmas meal will be at The Lodge, Dudley on December 4th.

On October 18 Pat Hadley will host a coffee morning at her home 10.30am. All are welcome. A new list is on the board for volunteers to host a coffee morning.

Barbara Taylor gave details of the musical ‘9 to 5’ which will be performed at Stourbridge Town Hall November 14-18. The panto ‘Mother Goose’ will be performed at Brierley Hill Civic Hall in the New Year.

Wendy then introduced our speaker Adam Williams who gave a very interesting and detailed talk about the Midlands Air Ambulance. It was set up in May 1991 and covers, with three helicopters, 21 areas of the six counties of the West Midlands. It is regionalised so that each helicopter covers its own area. The many situations it is called out for are mainly serious or life changing accidents and immediate health problems. Speed is essential to all incidents taking doctors and critical care paramedics. 90% dealing with trauma situations i.e. traffic accidents and 1 in 4 are sports incidents. So far 48,000 people have been given the best chance of life with the crew working 14 hours each day only during daylight. There is no Government financial assistance and rely solely on public funding. The vote of thanks was given by Wendy and a collection followed a very thought provoking talk.

Wendy gave details of the Community Centre Christmas Bazaar on December 9 which will be supported by the Guild with a chocolate ‘Prize Every Time’ tombola. Requests made for donations of any item of food which includes chocolate to be brought to the November meeting. The Bazaar will be open to the public at 2pm.

The next guild meeting is on November 20,10am when Jackie Smith will give a talk and demonstration on ‘Nova Chocolates’. There will be a tasting session and a sales table.

All meetings are held at Wordsley Green Community Centre the third Monday every month.
