THERE was fun in the park at this year’s Wordsley Festival despite the soggy weather.

Up to 1,000 people braved the downpours to turn out for the event in King George V Park in Bells Lane on Saturday June 16.

Attractions including Tom and Tilly’s World of Tom Foolery and the Mighty Smith Show, featuring former Mr Universe finalist and three-time UK’s strongest man winner, went down well with the crowd; as did performances by top acts from Wordsley’s Got Talent - Lucy Passey, Black Country Rebels, Ian Cochrane and Big in Disguise who were given a wildcard to appear at the event.

Other attractions at the family fun day included a host of stalls, facepainting, vintage cars, quad bikes, Thomas Jones Fun Fair, Zumba event and demonstrations by Pedmore Panthers dance group and Estrella Dance Academy.

Festival chairman Mick Davies said: “Everybody who came seemed to enjoy themselves. It was a bit damp to say the least and we could have done with more there but we carried on and the day went very well.”

Dudley South MP Chris Kelly said he “enjoyed” the event.

He added: “It was a real shame about the weather but I pay tribute, once again, to the organising committee for all their hard work.”
