Military vehicles past and present will be rumbling into Himley Hall and Park for the annual Armed Forces Day family festival.

A range of military vehicles will be on display at the picturesque open space as part of the free family fun day on June 30.

It includes war time motorcycle and side cars, a land rover, heavy recovery vehicles and a jeep.

The display is part of a number of events on the day including marching bands, music from the D-Day Darlings, and free children’s activities including a climbing wall, trampolines, lawn games and much more.

The event aims to celebrate the work of the armed forces and will also feature badge presentations to veterans by the Mayor of Dudley.

Councillor Alan Finch, Mayor of Dudley, said:

“Armed Forces Day is always a fantastic event and this year’s programme is already shaping up to be packed full of things to do. The display of military vehicles is a spectacular part of the day and people can find out more about their history.

“I hope to see as many people there on the day enjoying what is sure to be a wonderful free family day out.”

The Mayor of Dudley will be officially presenting medals and badges to veterans including the HM Armed Forces Veterans Badges or an Arctic Star and Bomber Command clasp. Anyone who has received either award is urged to come forward to be able to take part in the ceremony.

Second World War veterans who served on the arctic convoys and in the Bomber Command can request their badge before having it formally presented at Armed Forces Day by calling 08457 800 900.

Anyone who thinks they are entitled to one of the HM Armed Forces Veterans Badges should call 0800 169 2277 or email SPVA-VeteransBadges@mod.uk

People who have already received one of the badges but have not had it formally presented to them, can contact Dudley Council on 01384 815222 to be part of the ceremony. Other veterans and serving armed forces personnel are also asked to contact the council on the same number if they are planning to attend.

The event will begin with a youth marching band competition from 11am followed by family entertainment, games and displays throughout the day. Veterans will be presented with their badges from around 3pm.
