PLANS by Dudley Council to cut millions of pounds from its budget are set to be put to the public in a special social media forum tomorrow (October 29).

Residents from across the borough will have then chance to quiz council leader Pete Lowe about the proposals set out by the authority last week.

Dudley Council has to save £20 million by 2018/19, but forecasts there will still be a deficit of more than £50 million if additional savings are not found.

The Labour-run authority blames the cuts on a £65 million reduction in government funding since 2010 which is forecast to rise to more than £100 million over the next three years.

Budget proposals will be discussed by cabinet at a meeting this evening (October 28).

Cllr Lowe will be answering people’s questions live on the Council’s Dudley borough Facebook page (www.facebook.com/DudleyBorough) tomorrow evening, between 6pm and 7pm.

He said: “The budget proposals will undoubtedly have an impact on the way we deliver services, and people’s views are really important to us as a community council.

“Not only will there be a formal consultation in the next few weeks, we decided to hold one of our successful and award winning online community forums specifically on the budget to make sure we give people as many opportunities as possible to get involved.

“I hope to hear from community group about how we can work together to deliver services, as well as from people who want to know more.”

People will have the chance to feedback on the proposals as part of The Big Question for three months from early November, before the council’s cabinet makes a decision in February next year.
