A BROMSGROVE school caterer has won a national award for making a cake in the shape of a lion.

Carla Brown who works for catering service BAM Facilities Management at Meadows Parkside School received the bronze award from the Lead Association for Catering in Education at its national conference.

Colin Merryweather, operations director for BAM Facilities Management in the Midlands, said: “Carla’s award was one of several received by catering staff from BAM Facilities Management across the various categories showing the level of expertise and skill our catering teams across the organisation possess. This was the first competition Carla had entered at this level and her bronze award has made us all in the BAM Facilities Management Midlands team very proud of her achievement.

“This is the first time Carla had entered and she did a fantastic job. It really shows how much skill our catering teams possess and how well we can look after our clients catering needs.”

Any staff within the catering industry can take part in the competition to show off their skills.

Entries were judged independently by a team of chefs from the Craft Guild of Chefs, some of which work in five star hotels.

The conference was held in Birmingham last week.
