TWO people were trapped in their cars for 45 minutes following a traffic collision in Droitwich.

The crash occurred on Thursday, August 28 at approximately 8.20am on the junction of the A38 and Briar Mill when a a car crossed over the carriageway and collided with a second vehicle.

A woman in her mid 20s, who was driving one of the cars sustained head and pelvic injuries, while the driver of the other car, a man in his mid 40s suffered chest and back injuries.

Two ambulances attended the scene, along with a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman, said: “Crews arrived to the dual carriageway to find two cars that had been in a significant collision. It is believed one car had crossed over to the opposite side of the carriageway before the vehicles collided.

“Both patients received emergency treatment from ambulance medics whilst still in their vehicles. They were then extricated with the assistance of the fire service.

“Considering the damage to the vehicles, the injuries suffered could have been much more serious.”

The female driver was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s major trauma unit for further emergency treatment, while the male driver was transferred by ambulance to Worcester Royal Hospital for further treatment.
