THE SILVER Jubilee of the Wychavon Festival of Brass (WFB) will be celebrated with twelve hours of music.

Bands from the West Country, the London area, Wales and Yorkshire will be travelling to Worcestershire to blow their own trumpets - and trombones - in a hotly contested competition.

This is because the WFB will host one of the largest one day brass band contests in the UK on Saturday, November 1, from 10am, with fifty bands expected to line up and be heard.

The roof-raising event will take place at two locations, - Evesham High and the De Montfort School, both on Four Pools Road.

Kevin Whittaker, a spokesperson for the WFB said: "After a quarter of a century of roaming the Wychavon district the event is now firmly settled, at least for the time being in the place of its origin, - Evesham.

"The competition is split into five sections with bands graded from Championship to Fourth Section level. However, competition at every level is fierce, and each section winner takes with them impressive trophies and healthy prize money as well as the kudos of succeeding at one of the most popular events of the brass band calendar."

Mr Whittaker added: " All of these bands will converge on Evesham for a day of healthy competition, great playing and a wonderful atmosphere.Outstanding solo performances can be expected and a myriad of entertaining sets will be performed throughout the day by each band in turn.

"To give bandsman and public visitors an excellent all day experience, the WFB Trustees have taken care to engage bar and catering service. This year, Nigel Smith of the well-known Fleece Inn at Bretforton is providing refreshments. The Fleece will operate a bar and a deli service and—and this must be a first for the brass band competition world—a pig roast!"

All day tickets for all sections are available on the door at both venues and are priced at at £10.
