A STOURBRIDGE community fund has been inundated with applications for help following an appeal in the News.

Organisers were left speechless when nobody came forward to take advantage of the John Porter Community Fund, which provides financial help for local good causes.

Since then applications to the have gone through the roof, said Lucy Porter, who set up the fund in memory of her late father.

She continued: "We've had so many applications, there's enough to take us well into next year.

"We've had to put some applicants on the backburner until a later date and others we've simply had to say no to."

The latest groups to benefit from the fund include Christ Church at Lye and Stambermill, where the money will go towards supporting their youth community project.

Other beneficiaries are Sounding Board in Oldswinford, who provide support for carers in Stourbridge and Warrior Explorer Scout Unit, based at the Alderman Tye building in South Road, who have received help for their Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.
