A 48-YEAR-OLD man armed with a 12” long kitchen knife savagely attacked two Stourbridge sisters leaving them both needing emergency surgery, a court heard.

Jessica Brookes suffered a stab wound to her throat and sustained a serious hand injury - Nigel Stelling, prosecuting, told Wolverhampton Crown Court.

He said Amy Brookes was stabbed in the chest and neck by John Loveridge and she suffered a collapsed lung in the brutal attack.

The two sisters, he told the court, were attacked by Loveridge after he forced his way into a house in Robins Close, Oldswinford.

Loveridge - the ex-partner of Jessica Brookes who is the mother of his child - got into the property despite the efforts of Sylvia Titley, the sisters' grandmother, to keep him out.

He then grabbed Amy Brookes by the throat, said Mr Stelling, before stabbing her in the chest with the kitchen knife as Mrs Titley tried to pull him away.

Jessica Brookes, who had been out shopping, then returned and Mrs Titley who had been knocked to the ground saw her “topple".

Mr Stelling said Jessica Brookes had to undergo surgery to repair damaged tendons in her hand and she faced the prospect of another operation.

In a victim impact statement - Jessica Brookes told police officers she had been left extremely distressed by the incident because her injuries meant she had difficulty performing everyday tasks and she could not look after her son.

Loveridge, of The Steps, Harvington, Evesham, has admitted wounding Jessica and Amy Brookes with intent to cause them grievous bodily harm.

He has further admitted assaulting Mrs Titley causing her actual bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon - the kitchen knife.

Judge Martin Walsh told him he could not finalise the case until he had a further report detaining the full extent of the injuries suffered by the two sisters.

He said: "I need the full medical evidence detailing the exact nature and extent of the injuries".

And he further remanded Loveridge into custody to a date to be fixed in May.
