DUDLEY Zoo’s chief executive Peter Suddock has been suspended on full pay pending an internal investigation.

The exact circumstances surrounding his suspension have not been made public but a zoo spokesman said the investigation was looking into his “conduct of certain affairs of the zoo”.

A statement said: “The suspension does not constitute disciplinary action by the zoo.

“Whether or not disciplinary action is taken will depend upon the outcome of the investigation.”

Former council leader Councillor David Sparkes, who sits on the zoo’s Board of Trustees, was unable to provide further details but said: “I have kept the leader of the council and the chief legal officer informed of the situation as the council is a shareholder.”

Mr Suddock has been the zoo’s chief executive since 1993 and was crowned Director of the Year at the 2013 West Midlands Institute of Directors' awards.
