A DROITWICH-based cricket legend has been visiting a Spa hospital to unveil two new state-of-the-art scanners.

The former England cricketer, part of the Ashes-winning team in 2005, recently visited BMI Droitwich Spa Hospital to officially open the GE 450W wide-bore MRI scanner and the Toshiba Aquilion Prime CT scanner.

The 42-year-old, who lives in the town and is now a cricket director and head coach at Lancashire Cricket Club, said he was delighted to unveil the machines.

“BMI Droitwich Spa has a special relationship with people in the town and surrounding area and it is great to see it investing in such top quality equipment,” he said.

“I think it represents a major boost for healthcare services in the entire region.”

The scanners are part of a £2 million partnership project between BMI Healthcare and Alliance Medical Ltd, and the unveiling event was also attended by the new Droitwich mayor Graham Beale.

The hospital’s executive director Jenny Liggitt said she was “delighted” the new scanners were up and running.

“This is a massive boost for the hospital and its patients, putting the hospital at the cutting edge of imaging technology,” she said.
