AN award-winning Stourbridge community group is on the hunt for volunteer helpers.

The Happy Hours Club, based at the Elton Centre, in St John’s Road, meets on a Tuesday evening and supports local young people and adults with mild to moderate learning disabilities.

Since starting in 2008 with about 15 members, the club has steadily grown and now has more than 50 members attending each week.

However, to keep up with the increase in the club’s popularity, more voluntary helpers are needed to support the members.

Johnny Fowkes, club chairman, said: “We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers of all ages to come along between 6pm and 9pm on a Tuesday evening.

“We want people who can help set up games and equipment, people who can interact with our members and people who just love to have a great time.”

The club, which this year was awarded a Queens Award for Voluntary Service, provides a safe and enjoyable two hours of fun and activities, topped off with theme nights and even their own version of the X-Factor.
