A YOUNG girl was inspired to get her haircut to benefit children with cancer following the death of a popular Worcester dentist.

Daisy Westgate will be having nine inches of her long hair cut off and donated to Little Princess Trust which makes wigs for children who have lost their hair after cancer treatment.

The year four Northwick Manor Primary School pupil will also be raising money for the charity and in 24 hours has already been sponsored £145.

Mum Tonina Westgate, who lives off Cornmeadow Lane, after the death of family friend David Howcroft, a dentist at at Shrubbery Dental, in 2014 from a brain tumour.

"David was a friend and, after he died from a brain tumour, Daisy was reading about the Little Princess TRust and said she would like to donate her hair in his memory.

"She has been growing it for quite a long time so she has plenty to give.

"Because she has seen adults go through cancer and the devastating effects she has wanted to do something positive - it was her idea to have the cut and raise money.

"She's very thoughtful and compassionate and likes to think of other people and how they might be feeling."

Hairdresser Darren Westwood, who works from home in Blackpole, has agreed to carry out the haircut in June free of charge.

Daisy, age nine, said: "I'm a bit nervous but most of all I am very excited.

"I just want to help people and children with cancer feel a bit better."
