THE pace is stepping up in Pershore as the Plum Plodders Running Club embarks on its second annual 10k race.
The race has become a key part in the plum festival calendar held each year on the August Bank Holiday weekend.
Last year's event raised £1,000 for local charities.
The running club has around 70 members of all ages and abilities and they are already in training for the race on Sunday August 28.
The circuit, which is completely flat, will see the runners taking in the lanes and tracks around Pershore and Wick, finishing against the back-drop of Pershore Abbey.
More than 300 competitors are expected this year with medals for every finisher and trophies for the winners.
The race has been sponsored by Ken Tallis, of Abbey Butchers, with club member Ian Hannis, and his company, Newbury Commercial, supplying essential equipment.
Money raised this year will go to Acorns Children's Hospice, Pershore Riverside Youth Centre, Pershore Volunteer Centre and Pershore's new dementia group.
