POP star Jamelia has said she was racially abused by a policeman in Barnt Green after she overtook him while driving her daughters to the train station.

The singer and Loose Women presenter posted on Facebook on Monday, June 27 to tell fans that a man in uniform had followed her to Barnt Green train station after she rushed past him, shouted a foul four letter word and called her a ‘stupid black b*tch’ when she tried to apologise.

Jamelia said when she asked the man not to swear in front of her children he said, ‘you lot are sickening.’

The 35-year-old single mother wrote on social media: “I overtook someone as I was driving to the train station. I was running late, and in a rush. Not an excuse, it wasn’t the right thing to do.”

Jamelia claims when she tried to walk away with her two daughters - Téja, 15, and Tiana, 10 - the man ‘opened his car door in a rage’, forcing them to run away towards the station in fear.

But the singer said she was ‘mostly disappointed because this man was a police officer.’

She added: “Despite my many negative experiences with the police, I have always made a conscious effort to not taint my daughters' view of them. I've always wanted my girls to trust & respect the police, and have confidence that they are there for their protection. But I think the police should realise that profiling works both ways, what you display is what you potentially become in the eyes of a child.

“How can you expect black children to have faith in you if they witness their parents being mistreated like this? It is not okay.”

Since posting her story on social media, Jamelia’s outraged fans have commented in force to express their disgust and encourage the singer to report the incident.

Jamelia initially said she felt she had insufficient information to take the incident further, but later updated fans that she had reported the incident to West Mercia Police, who are now investigating her claims.

Superintendent Helena Bennet said: "West Mercia Police can confirm that yesterday (Monday, June 27) we received a formal complaint in relation to this incident.

"We have spoken to the victim and discussed the individual's clothing and our uniform with her. The clothing of the man involved differs from that of local operational officers. It is not clear at this time whether the man was a police officer or not and we are keeping an open mind as to his identity.”

She added: “We are carrying out a full investigation into the incident. Local officers are reviewing CCTV from the area and enquiries are ongoing to identify the person involved. We continue to take the matter seriously.

"We do not tolerate racism either within our communities or our workforce and, whether the individual involved is a serving officer or not, we will ensure that the appropriate action is taken."

Police are now encouraging anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward by calling 101.
