WORCESTER cyclists using the city's railway stations are being urged to step up security after a series of bike thefts.

The warning has been issued as police release CCTV images of two men suspected of stealing at least two bikes.

In the last three months six bikes, worth at least £1,300, have been stolen from Foregate and Shrub Hill stations after their locks were cut with bolt croppers.

British Transport Police (BTP) have been patrolling the platforms and examining CCTV footage to try and catch the thieves.

The CCTV image shows two men taking two bikes from Shrub Hill, just before 8pm on Saturday, May 25.

PC Ben Smith, from BTP, said: “We would also like to speak to them about the other thefts which have taken place in the last few months, and I'd urge anyone who knows their identity to contact us.

“I'd like to take this opportunity to remind cyclists to make sure they have an adequate, high quality lock on their bikes.

“We advise using more than one lock to secure your bike and if possible, D-locks, extension cable or heavy chain locks, which are harder for thieves to cut through.”

Anyone with information, or who recognises the men in the CCTV, can call BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016. They should quote the reference 565.

Alternatively, details can be given to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
